WU SHU KY MARTIAL ARTS FIGHT CLUB
On Sunday, 3rd
October at the Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School in Naxxar, Fight Club I has been organized by the WU SHU KY Freestyle
Kickboxing club directed by its Chief Instructor Sensei Silvio Camilleri. Demonstrations,
Exhibition fights, Light Contact and Full Contact bouts were all in the programme.
Participants from the Dione Boxing Club, led by Dione Galea showed their boxing skills
in both exhibition and competitive fights. A boxing bout was also arranged between
a fighter from Bertu’s Gym in Ghargur and a fighter from the Diones Boxing Club whilst Karatekas from the Mgarr Karate
Club led by Sensei James Galea, 4th Dan and the Mtarfa Karate Club led by Sensei Jason Edwards, both branches of
the Malta Karate Federation, showed their skills by demonstrating techniques and some free sparring. It was the Kickboxers turn to get in the ring. There were
four light contact fights and three full contact fights. The clubs that took
part in these fights were the WU SHU KY Freestyle Kickboxing club led by Sensei Silvio Camilleri 3rd Dan Black
Belt, and the Malta Freestyle Kickboxing Club led by Alfred Zahra 2nd Dan Black Belt. The standard shown by both clubs in these competitive fights was of a very high level and is was a difficult
task for the judges to make their decisions. At the end of the event trophies
were given to the Best Fighter in both Light contact and Full Contact categories. Dale
Hamilton from the WU SHU KY Freestyle Kickboxing club won the Best Fighter in the Light Contact category and the Best Fighter
of the Full Contact category was won by Pierre Tonna of the WU SHU KY Freestyle Kickboxing club and by Renald Tabone of the
Malta Freestyle Kickboxing Club. A special thanks to the Dragon’s Centre,
Martial Arts supplies shop of Hal-Luqa who sponsored the Full Contact Best Fighter trophy and to Lino Zahra, James Galea,
Bertu Camilleri and Ryan Agius who judged the fights.
