                                                 MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

For new and existing martial artists looking to train in an environment that uses effective proven techniques from a variety of fighting styles.

Training will include conditioning, speed drills, flexibility exercises, and effective stand-up and ground fighting techniques.

The fighting arts of Boxing, Muay Thai kickboxing, Wrestling, Karate and Ju Jitsu will form the foundation of our fighting style. We will use the best techniques from these styles such as punching, kicking, elbows, knees, take downs, grappling and submissions. The emphasis will be on contact fighting but safety will be a priority. Sparring gear will be required.

If you are an experienced martial artist of any style that would like to join us and share with us your combat techniques; we look forward to seeing you.

PANKRATION INSTRUCTOR CHRIS RYAN

Quote: “the best fighter is not a Boxer, Karate or Judo man. The best fighter is someone who can adapt to any style. He kicks too good for a Boxer, throws too good for a Karate man and punches too good for a Judo man.”…....Bruce Lee

 INTRODUCTION

Since Pankration, a combination of boxing and wrestling was introduced to the Olympic Games in 648 BC mixed martial arts has evolved throughout history.

Modern MMA events were popular throughout Europe and Japan in the 1800’s and early 1900’s with boxing Vs Jui jitsu contests. In the 1920’s, Vale Tudo (anything goes) tournament matches were hosted in Brazil expanding to Japan in the 1970’s.

In 1993 the Ultimate Fighting Championship was introduced to North America. The concept was based upon pitting different styles of martial arts against one another to see who was the best. There were very few rules and no weight classes.

Since then MMA has evolved into a multi-dimensional, well rounded form of combat that is not limited to professional fighting. It is safely practiced by a wide range of participants of all ages and gender and has proven to be an effective form of self defense.
